Cold Spray Nickel-Iron Rotary Targets for Magnetic Devices and Functional Coatings
Nickel-iron (NiFe) alloy sputtering targets are specialized functional materials in the thin-film deposition industry, offering exceptional soft magnetic properties including high permeability, low coercivity, and low magnetic hysteresis loss. These targets are widely applied in magnetic sensors, data storage devices, thin-film inductors, transformers, and selected semiconductor-related device structures.
NiFe alloys, typically represented by the Permalloy composition Ni₈₀Fe₂₀, combine nickel's excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance with iron's ferromagnetic characteristics. This combination results in high magnetic permeability and low coercivity in weak magnetic fields, making NiFe targets ideal for preparing magnetic thin films. In magnetic sensor applications, NiFe thin films are used in anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) and giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensors. In data storage, they are essential for read/write heads in hard disk drives and magnetic storage layers in magnetoresistive random-access memory (MRAM). In thin-film inductors and transformers, NiFe alloys serve as important functional materials. In superconducting and quantum electronics research, NiFe alloys have been explored for specialized magnetic film applications, with customized solutions available upon request.
UV Tech Material LTD. (UVTM), a national-level SRUI "Little Giant" enterprise established in 2003, has developed a comprehensive cold spraying technology platform for manufacturing high-performance rotary targets. The company's NiFe targets feature rotary specifications with a Ni+Fe main component total content of ≥99.5%, manufactured through its proprietary cold spraying process. Typical specifications and dimensions can be customized according to customer requirements.
Cold spraying technology offers significant advantages over conventional manufacturing methods. Unlike traditional casting or thermal spraying, cold spraying operates at low temperatures, depositing powder materials in a solid state without melting. This results in dense, uniform coatings with minimal oxidation. UVTM's independently developed cold spraying equipment enables precise control over key parameters including gas temperature, spraying pressure, and powder feeding rate. The material utilization efficiency offers clear advantages over conventional casting processes.
As of August 2026, the company has obtained over 100 effective patents, including 73 invention patents and 34 utility model patents. Supported by its extensive patent portfolio and a 35,000+ square meter standardized production base, UVTM has achieved large-scale manufacturing capabilities for both thermal spraying and cold spraying technologies. The company's facilities include dedicated spraying production lines capable of simultaneous mass production across multiple target material categories. All products undergo rigorous quality control and comply with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and other management system standards. UVTM's products have entered overseas markets including Japan, South Korea, Europe, and the United States.
UVTM offers comprehensive technical support ranging from material customization and backplane bonding to large-area sputtering applications.
